"A patriot's palette of military motions and human emotions. Vulnerable beings in underwear, obsessed and obsessing physicalities in uniform, honoring the dead, intercut with musing and amusing romantic interludes. Being choked by the flag, gazing at stars, waving rhythmically in tune with the kelp of the watery world. Delicate digital compositions projected an organic stage and a cutting visual edge. Cool. Bravo." - Mike Hazard, CIE
"I'll be the first to admit I don't go to a lot of theatrical or dance related things but I really enjoyed this show last night. The theatre is cool, the dancers are all very graceful and the music was definitely great..." ~Kelly (TCPUNK Posting)
"Have Gun Will Shoot was, to me, about contradictory feelings evoked by appeals to patriotism tied to the war. It's about a culture of disembodied idealism and the realities of those consequences on bodies, who are caught up in it." - Deborah Wallwork (Visual Artist)
"When I saw the web site photo of you wrapped in the American flag, I have to admit that I braced myself for something of a cliché. What I experienced was completely different. I thought you did a remarkable job interpreting the complexity of emotions we all feel about the war. I thought you honored the men and women who serve in the war by portraying their dedication, training, and service...and, importantly, by acknowledging that they too are conflicted. I think the most striking and frustrating aspect of this war has been the american people's ability to disengage from it completely." -Bill Keller, Washington D.C.
"Inspired me very much, even more so when I heard that a lot of sequences are improvisional. Very authentic. Serious dealing with society, behavioral patterns and critical double check of values. Professional pick-up of a difficult theme. Great stuff. Great dancers. Super media show." -Raimar
"So, I went last night, and thought it was quite brilliantly done! Very beautiful, the music was absolutely perfect, and I enjoyed the kelp bit very much. great performance, absolutely. guns, flags, rawk" ~Alycya (TCPUNK Posting)
"I so loved your performance. It was truly a powerful production. I came to see the show without any notion of its content or form and sat in awe from the beginning to the end. From the moment the light shown onto the American flag, I knew that I would be touched. The somber mood created emotions of despair and a longing for peace and love. It made you reflect. It made you wonder. The sparseness of the images visually ensured focus on the dance work, yet was perfectly profound. Performance art evoking strong emotions helps evolve our societywe all become better as a result. Creating this show on such a deep, sensitive topic is bold, brave and essential. Thank you for sharing it with us!" Gretchen Buhler Ventura |
